The "Little Venice" or "Alefkandra" is one of the most famous and unique attractions in Mykonos. It is located in Chora (town of Mykonos) and can be reached through the cobbled streets of the city.
The picturesque neighborhood was built in the 18th century and was essentially the homes of wealthy merchants and captains of the island. The houses are beautiful works of art, characterized by the colorful wooden doors, windows and stairs. The colored terraces and balconies literally hang over the water and all the buildings had a basement that was open to the sea. Their construction was determined by the need of the time for direct access for merchants and captains to their ships and merchandise.
The designation "Little Venice" was probably given in the early 20th century by travelers as the architecture and charm of the neighborhood, reminded Venice of Italy. The name "Alefkandra" was given the old days because the Myconian women went there and washed their clothes.
The "Little Venice" will amaze you every hour of the day. However, due to the orientation of the view, it is distinguished by magnificent sunsets. The colors of the sunset gives it a special charm that can be enjoyed in one of the many buildings that have been turned into cafes, bars and restaurants.
It has a special and unique sight also when the angry sea and the waves wipe "Little Venice". The whole image will surely impress you.
